Federal Communications Commission Chairman Julius Genachowski on Thursday will announce a regulatory "third way" to preserve net neutrality, promising "a path forward for the Commission to address serious legal issues" raised by a recent court ruling that threw the agency's broadband regulatory authority into doubt, according to a senior FCC official.

AT&T Dinged by Drop in New Mobile Contracts

The Dallas-based telco carrier suffered a 43% drop in the number of new cellular contracts issued in the first quarter, with the number falling to 512,000 net new customers, according to AT&T's earnings results released Wednesday.

AT&T's first-quarter revenue rose 0.3% but the telecom has its challenges. The number of new cellular contracts issued in the quarter dropped 43%. What's worse, the company may lose its exclusivity with Apple in providing service for the iPhone, denting a key revenue stream.

Verizon CEO: We Will Offer Apple’s iPhone ‘Eventually’

Verizon (VZ) CEO Ivan Seidenberg wants a piece of the iPhone action as well. This week, Seidenberg said Verizon has informed Apple that it wants to offer the iPhone to its customers.

Ivan Seidenberg says his company has told Apple it wants to offer the iPhone on its network. Currently, AT&T is the exclusive U.S. provider. But Seidenberg offers few other details other than to say Verizon thinks it will get the iPhone "eventually."
