Cruise Line Visit to Haiti Highlights Ugly Side of Paradise

By admin, January 22, 2010 5:40 pm
Three days after the earthquake in Haiti, Royal Caribbean (RCL) sent one of its cruise ships, the "Independence of the Seas," to Labadee, a privately owned Haitian beach. The move, which created an uncomfortable juxtaposition between starving, dying Haitians and well-fed vacationers, has caused many to question the cruise line and its relationship to its Caribbean ports of call.

Foreign Companies Were Upbeat about Haiti Before Earthquake

By admin, January 21, 2010 4:30 pm
Of the many cruel ironies of last week's deadly earthquake in Haiti, this one is the cruelest: In the months before the disaster, international officials were optimistic that the outlook for the Western Hemisphere's poorest country was starting to improve.

Many of these funds have come from big U.S. businesses, according to a recent tally by 24/7 Wall St.
