FDA Acts on Drugs, Warns Companies

By admin, April 9, 2010 8:00 am
The FDA is busy overseeing drugmakers while a government investigator says the agency is neglecting oversight of food safety

A government investigator found the Food and Drug Administration lax in overseeing 80% of the U.S. food supply. While food safety violations aren't always followed up and the FDA conducts fewer reviews of food manufacturing sites, it seems its work overseeing drugmakers is busier than ever.

Inside Wall Street: 2010 Could Be Big for Small Biotechs

By admin, January 29, 2010 7:30 am
Biotechnology stocks pulled a huge surprise in 2009: They surged.

Few analysts expected the sector to handily outscore the rest of the market. Equally surprising was the robust performance of the young and small-cap crowd of mostly development-stage companies, which trumped their large-cap brethren. That was a switch from 2008, when the big guys outslugged the tykes, with the likes of Amgen (AMGN) and Genentech (which Roche acquired in 2009) leading the way.

Two New Multiple Sclerosis Pills Show Promise in Late-Stage Studies

By admin, January 21, 2010 5:00 pm
No less than three late-stage studies show that two experimental pills for multiple sclerosis -- fingolimod and cladribine -- are effective. Health-Care Sector Appears to Rally As Reform Chances Dim

By admin, January 20, 2010 8:15 pm

Now that Republicans have gained filibuster power, can the Democrats still pull this one off? My colleague, Joe Lazzaro, thinks they might do it just yet. Investors, however, seem to have already started to bet against health-care reform. Already on Tuesday, the health-care and pharma sectors climbed higher, a trend that mostly continued on Wednesday.
