The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has finally approved Novo Nordisk's (NVO) new once-daily injection for treating Type 2 diabetes, Victoza. Shares on Tuesday jumped about 3.8% in early afternoon trading in response to Monday's approval, as it came after some delays due to safety concerns. The Danish drug maker plans to launch Victoza in the U.S. within weeks.

EBay Rolls Out ‘Free’ Auction Listings to Attract More Sellers

EBay (EBAY), the giant online auctioneer, said Tuesday it is eliminating "listing" fees for occasional sellers, as it tries to entice more users to its website in the face of stiff competition from arch rival Amazon (AMZN). Starting Mar. 30, sellers they will be able to list up to 100 items every month for free; eBay will take 9% of the final sale price, or $50, whichever is less. The company also said it would reduce listing fees for fixed price "Buy-It-Now" goods.

That was the bottom line Tuesday as the beleaguered Web giant posted lackluster results, meeting Wall Street expectations. After hours, the company's strong guidance sent the company's shares higher. For the current quarter, Yahoo forecast revenue between $1.6 billion and $1.7 billion, significantly higher than the $1.2 billion analysts had been expecting.

Novartis Investors Cheer Strong Earnings and New CEO

Novartis (NVS) reported a remarkable 54% increase in fourth-quarter net income to $2.3 billion, just slightly below analysts' expectations of $2.4 billion. The Swiss drugmaker's net sales also shot up 28% to $12.9 billion, helped by its H1N1 swine flu vaccines. Novartis also announced its new chief executive and a slimmed-down board. Joe Jimenez (left), currently division head of the pharmaceutical business, will replace Daniel Vasella (right) as the company's new CEO. Vasella, who has led the company since it was formed in 1996 through the merger of Ciba-Geigy and Sandoz Labs, will remain chairman.
