There are signs of price stabilization in the oil market. And, as is often the case with crude, if price stability occurs in the year ahead, it will be due to a confluence of factors including the fact there are fewer Americans getting into cars as a result of the recession.

Shareholders in British candy maker Cadbury are looking for a fat increase in the hostile takeover bid by Kraft Foods (
KFT), as Kraft faces a Tuesday deadline for changes to its bid. Cadbury shares moved above 800 pence in Monday trading in the United Kingdom, indicating the market was looking for Kraft to jump to that level or higher. Kraft's 10.5 billion pounds ($17.1 billion) offer now values the British chocolate and gum company at about 770 pence, an offer which Cadbury dismisses as "derisory."

Foreign reporters based in China were the targeted by hackers who infiltrated their Google (
GOOG) email accounts, a Chinese-based journalism group said Monday. The announcement comes less than a week after Google
disclosed that it had been the victim of a massive cyber-attack that targeted over 30 American companies, as well as the Gmail accounts of Chinese dissidents and human rights workers.

With speculation mounting that Apple (

When it comes to Citigroup (
C) these days, the outlook is usually glum. Wall Street analysts unanimously expect a loss when the beleaguered global bank reports its results for the fourth quarter and full year on Tuesday. What could raise investors' spirits, however, is any sign that the complex bank is starting to get its house in order.

Last week's news that
business inventories and
industrial production are rising suggests the recovery is improving along the well-worn lines followed by previous exits from recession. Production and inventories rise, eventually driving improvements in employment. That in turn triggers a "virtuous cycle" of renewed consumer spending that powers further production increases, and so on. But unlike the previous recessions in 2001 and 1991, there are five potentially significant "potholes" in the road ahead, any one of which could thwart the recovery.

NASA has slashed the price of its fleet of space shuttles, hoping to spur more demand for the iconic ships, which are set to be sold this fall when they are formally mothballed in favor of newer spacecraft. The agency had originally hoped to fetch $42 million apiece for the 30-year-old ships, but after receiving only paltry expressions of interest, it has reduced the price to $28.8 million. What's more, NASA will throw in a used shuttle engine -- for free.

I have created a new benchmark against which investors can track the returns of their stocks and mutual funds. It can also be used to evaluate the performance of your "market-beating" broker or adviser. I call this index the Solin Random Stock Index (SRSI). Here's how I put it together. I took the spelling of my last name and punched each letter into the
DailyFinance quote engine. Then I selected the first two stocks that appeared for each letter. My only criteria was that the stocks were listed on a U.S. stock exchange.

Who is to blame for the fraud allegations rocking Koss Corp (KOSS). Well, obviously the people who allegedly misappropriated millions from the stereo-headphone maker's bank accounts or helped them in the scheme. Sujata "Sue" Sachdeva, the company's former vice president of finance and secretary, was arrested on Dec. 21 for allegedly using interstate wire communications to defraud Koss. Beyond that, the blame should be cast on the other executives at Koss who should have been paying more attention to the company's finances.
