Trying to rebound from an economic environment that had many investors sitting on the sidelines or pulling money out of stocks, Charles Schwab (SCHW), TD Ameritrade (AMTD) and ING Direct began pushing saving campaigns to their clients last week.

Yahoo Drawn Into Growing Cyber War Between Google and China

Yahoo (YHOO) was drawn into the growing international cyber-war between Google (GOOG) and the Chinese government Saturday after it declared its support of the U.S.-based search giant. Google threatened to pull out of China after it became the victim of a massive cyber attack that is believed to be masterminded by the Chinese government. Now several other U.S. companies are also believed to have been victims of a similar attack, including Yahoo.

This year is slated to be one of the few in history when the price of a 30-second ad during the Super Bowl declines, hobbled by the recession and decisions by some top marketers to sit on the sidelines. But 2010, when a 30-second spot is selling for $2.5 million to $2.8 million, compared with $3 million in 2009, may prove a glitch rather than the new norm. According to a new study from San Francisco advertising firm Venables Bell & Partners, Super Bowl commercials not only continue to spur consumer buying, but may influence consumers for much longer time than in previous decades. And that may push up ad rates in future games.

Doomsday Clock Resets: Is This the End?

At 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists (BAS) reset the famous "Doomsday Clock" to six minutes to midnight from its previous position of five minutes to midnight. This shift of one minute, the smallest adjustment in the history of the clock, indicates that the BAS is slightly more optimistic that the world might be able to address its problems and increase its security.
